Pregnancy Termination

Termination of pregnancy is carried out at the Preterm day hospital by medical doctors who specialise in this area, ideally in the first three months of pregnancy. Under these conditions termination has a very low risk of complication.

The procedure is done by suction curettage. You may ask questions to help you decide on the type of anaesthetic to use. Preterm can provide local or general anaesthetic, or intravenous sedation for the procedure.

See the Termination of Pregnancy Facts section for more detail about the procedure.

If you are over 13 weeks pregnant, you will need to have an ultrasound beforehand.
